Reformism vs Revolutionary change. pol, personal, take. Show more
I've been doing reformative work on campaigns that have successful for the past 7 years. I've seen first hand that policy change can work to reduce harm for large amounts of people and make the world easier for those directly impacted by the horrors of inequality, capitalism and colonialism.
That being said. We don't have enough time to continue at this pace. Reform too often moves at the speed of progressive white liberalism. Which is why often its more about compromising with the powers that be, more about cooperation and slowly chipping away at systems of corruption instead of burning them to the ground in order to erect more just and human systems in its ashes.
As someone who has experience in petition gathering, canvassing, community organizing, lobbying and peoples ballot referendums I can say absolutely and unwaveringly this:
Reformism does not and will not cut it. It's not meant to.
We need revolutionary change.
